Lady Mary Crowley

Bal Harbour North Sign

Created by Flower Therapy

As the eldest daughter of Lord and Lady Grantham, Lady Mary is known for her complex personality and emotional evolution. Initially proud and somewhat aloof, she navigates the challenges of societal expectations and personal loss. After the tragic death of her husband, she redefines her role within the family, grappling with her responsibilities as the heir, and her desire for independence. Throughout the series, Mary faces romantic entanglements, particularly with Matthew Crawley, her first husband, and later Henry Talbot, her second. Her character arc reflects the changing social dynamics of post-Edwardian England and the resilience of women during this era. This dress was the wedding gown she wore to marry Matthew Crawley, her distant cousin and heir to the Downton Abbey estate. Befitting the era of the 1920‘s, there is a strong emphasis on the flower of the season, the Calla Lily. Dried white fern, palm tree fiber, rose petals and lunaria make up the lace bodice, with a delicate veil of skeleton leaves and bouquet of Calla Lillies.

The Dowager Countess of Grantham

Bal Harbour South Sign

Created by Blooming Flower Art

The sharp-witted and formidable Dowager Countess is the epitome of aristocratic tradition and charm. With her biting humor and shrewd advice, she navigates family disputes and societal shifts with grace. Despite her initial resistance to change, Violet proves to be a fiercely loyal protector of her loved ones and a surprisingly adaptable figure as the world around her evolves. Her friendship with the contrastingly progressive Isobel Crawley balances her traditionalist and sharp attitude. Befitting her age and traditionalist ways, Violet’s style is planted firmly ten years earlier. Her early 1900s silhouettes and dark tones are in stark contrast to the evolving fashions of the women (and the world) around her.

Born into a wealthy American family, Cora brings both fortune and warmth to Downton Abbey. As the wife of Lord Grantham, she balances her role as a devoted mother and matriarch with her desire to modernize the estate and support her daughters‘ ambitions. Known for her grace and diplomacy, Cora often acts as a bridge between tradition and change, fostering unity within the family and among the staff. During the 1923 summer season in London, Cora presents her niece Lady Rose at Buckingham Palace for her coming out in society. In fitting with fashionable London trends, Cora wears this drop waist dress of rose petals and angel wing vintage lace and beading, with feather plume and white gloves of preserved rose petal, befitting this royal occasion. She stands in an English garden of hydrangea, rose, and statice.
